A Year Round Process
You may notice this article with my intended coaching guidance for you was written and published on New Years’s day. When I was developing this message while running (and walking) today I realized very clearly that the process of achieving success goals is one that all of the people I coach are using everyday throughout the year. The only difference I can point to is that in the past several months there has been a stepped emphasis on clearly defining business financial performance goals for 2012 just as we did for 2011 over a year ago.
No Two Set of Business and Personal Goals Are Alike
Real estate investors is the one niche where I work with a number of people (more than 10) who are real estate investors. With one exception they all have interest in the same type of transactions. However, none of their business goals are identical and there action steps planned on a daily/weekly/monthly basis are certainly not identical. Other business owners I coach have much different business models including:retail, wholesale, manufacturing, internet marketing and more. Certainly this divergent group does not have identical business goals.
All of us have relationship goals – personal and professional. Most have not defined them but that is no surprise since most have not defined their financial goals either. Then there are the health goals: very fleeting goal setting in that area. You may tell me that your life partner your “twin flame” your spouse and you have identical goals and I would say give me 10 minutes separately with each one of you and we will see just how identical those goals are.
How To Turn The Odds Of Goal Achievement In Your Favor!
Define your goals for you and not for how others think about you or your goals. When you define them as being important for you then you are linking them to your satisfaction. This is the big WHY factor people talk about.
Be specific in defining your goals in measurable time and performance
Understand these Laws of The Universe:
Law of Opposites
Law of Recirprocity
Oneness (reference quantum physics)
Confidence vs. Expectations
This is a very big opportunity for all of us. Expectation is probably the number one cause of stress, frustration , anger, disappointment, divorce, business failure and more. Most of us move into a state of expecting things to move in a certain direction or go a certain way. We maintain that mindset even though experience tells us that is rarely the case. Look at a very clear example of airplane travel. We intend to go from point A to point B. The route is defined and the timetable is published….leave at time x and arrive at time y. How often does our experience match up with our expectation. If you don’ t fly then use the example of traveling by car.
Regardless of the example it is rare when our experience matches up with our expectation…and that is when trouble begins for most of us. Consider the end result: we intend to fly to Chicago …we get there. We intend to drive to the grocery store.. we get there. We intend to get home for dinner and we get there. Most of the time the outcome is experienced it is just the steps in between rarely match up with our expectations. Have confidence in the outcome and remove the expectation how exactly it will unfold from the process.
Recently, I was asked to give a presentation at High Point, North Carolina to a very business savvy group. I knew the outcome, I planned for the execution. I knew it would go well and I the only expectation I had was that my skills in being flexible with the timing, and logistics of the event would be tested. They were and the outcome was very positive.
